A winning couple is $17.1 million richer as they win Saturday’s Powerball draw organized by Lotto New Zealand.
An Auckland couple is the recent winner of New Zealand’s Powerball jackpot worth $17 million. While the draw took place on Saturday the winning couple has now come forward to claim their prize from Lotto New Zealand.
The owner of the store that vended the winning ticket revealed to the lottery officials that the store was being flooded with people. People were coming into the store to check their tickets for the Powerball draw as they awaited the winner to come forward. The store that sold the lucky ticket is West City Lotto and the owner Sunny Arora has owned the outlet for nearly five years. This particular outlet is Henderson, West Auckland inside the West City shopping mall.
Arora was very happy with the win since the news had attracted a lot of people to the shop. It’s indeed a good day for the store owner along with the winning couple since the consumer traffic would increase sales and turnover. He revealed that since the shop has sold some big wins in the past too, people think that it is a blessed shop. He further revealed some of the big wins were two scratchie ticket entries that won $40,000 and $50,000 each. The owner was in a very lively mood and it was apparent by the little jokes he cracked here and there.
The $17 million is not all that the couple has won but it has additionally also won a whopping $166,667 in Lotto First Division.
There were five other First Division winning entries as well, with each winning $166,667. These lucky tickets were sold all across the country including the Marlborough region. One of these tickets was purchased in Blenheim from Countdown Springlands, while another one was sold at Pak’n Save in Dunedin.
The remaining three tickets were purchased Auckland, Southland, and Wellington. These winners purchased the tickets online by using the lottery’s official mobile app, MyLotto.
The winning numbers for this lottery draw were 7-9-24-35-14-10 with the bonus ball and Powerball numbered 1 and 8, respectively.
With this $17 million win, the winning couple makes it to the list of big Lotto winners of this year.
Earlier this year $22.5 million was won in Lotto Powerball by a punter in Christchurch. This makes the recent jackpot win the second-largest Powerball win this year.
Lotto Powerball has churned many multimillionaires across the country this year already. A player who purchased their ticket through MyLotto won $16.5 million last month in Hamilton. Someone who purchased their ticket in Auckland from Hylite Dairy won $12.3 million in May. Another Powerball winner in Auckland emerged when they won a whopping $14.2 million.
